Motion: I make a motion to donate the max allowed from the cancer fund to assist Doug and his family with what will surely be some outstanding medical bills.
Doug Dedear. Where to even start . The man is a legend. Retired Austin firefighter of 27 years, loving husband, father of 3 boys, grandfather of one baby boy, brother to 3 sisters, uncle to several, coach, mentor, leader and many other titles. Doug has the biggest heart you’ve ever seen. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. He loves the Lord with all of his heart and has always wanted nothing more than to be a good example to all and to show the love of Christ.
For those of you that know Doug Dedear, you know he’s a rock. He would put his own problems on the back burner and make it look like nothing was going on if somebody else needed help. That is a very selfless thing to do. Unfortunately though, now he really needs all the help he can get from his friends and family at this time.
Ever since January of 2020 we, his family, started noticing minute things that just didn’t seem normal for him. For instance, short term memory loss, and headaches, which slowly progressed to incoherency and personality changes. He started getting sleepy all the time and couldn’t understand simple everyday words, etc. Yesterday, June 1st, was a big scare. He was rushed to the ER for all previous symptoms and more. Upon arrival at the ER he had an MRI that found 2 massive growths on the left side of his brain, which the doctors believed to be cancerous. A CT scan was conducted to find out if there was more cancer anywhere else in the body, which could be the cause of the brain growths. Brain surgery followed the next morning to remove the growths, but unfortunately dr’s were only able to remove one due to pathology team’s recommendation. The first surgery went well and he is already able to talk and hold a more normal conversation than he was prior to surgery. No date selected for a second surgery yet, as tests are being run on the tumor to find out if it is benign or malignant. God willing the second surgery goes as well as the first, then it’s a long road to recovery. Our God is strong and can work a miracle. He can make a way where there seems to be no way.
Family and friends of Doug Dedear, I am asking on behalf of he and his wife because they would never ask you themselves in a million years, if you feel so led, please contribute any amount to the cause of saving Doug Dedear’s life and helping with the expenses of tests, surgeries, and recovery. He recently had a grand child, who is less than a month old who he needs to watch grow into a man before he says goodbye to this world and his family.
Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers and love and friendship of everybody. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
